Basic Research Lab Program

Target grantees

Small-sized research groups that possess research infrastructure for specific research topics, with a concentration on S&T-related academic departments/colleges/majors within the same university*, must constitute four to five faculty members including a PI. The PI* should be a full-time tenure professor at the applying university, and faculty-level joint researchers may include full-time endowment professors and research professors. (Researchers scheduled to be appointed as a professor prior to the commencement of a project may apply for and participate in the funding program.)
* To facilitate joint research, PIs should participate in more than 50 percent of the projects concerned.
* The same university refers to the same campus, and local branch campuses located in different regions are considered separate universities.
Although faculty members from other departments/colleges may participate, at least 50 percent of joint researchers must belong to the same department/college/major as the PI.

Application unit
1 Where only departments or colleges exist, departments/colleges may apply.
2 Where majors exist in colleges, majors may apply.
3 Where only departments exist in graduate schools, departments may apply.
* No limits on the number of applying for projects from the same department/college/major, but only one project may be selected and conducted.
