Seven parties including Korea, EU, United States, Japan, China, India and Russia jointly participated in building and operating ITER* to secure original technology and produce core experts to commercialize nuclear fusion energy for the 2050s.

Research areas: Korea produces and procures 9 key devices* and requires Korean companies to produce such devices to ensure strategic obtaining of core nuclear fusion technology

* Superconductor, the main body of vacuum container, vacuum container port, blanket shielding block, assembly equipment, thermal cutout, power supply, tritium storage and supply system, IVC busbar, diagnostic device, etc.

Summary: Support the construction of ITER to obtain a large volume of clean energy in the future

Construction period: Total 18 years (Oct. 2007 ~ Dec. 2025)

Funding: Annually around KRW 30~50,000 million/project (USD 27~45,460 thousand)
