Tae-il Kim's research team at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) developed a system that improves the decision-making performance of artificial intelligence through human brain waves by making a wearable device for measuring brain waves based on tattoo electrodes. Through this study, the researchers revealed that the artificial intelligence machine could check the brain waves of a person in real time and obtain information, making the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence a teacher-student-like relationship. The study appears in the journal npj Flexible Electronics in May.

Prof. Kim said, “This study is a case in which the performance of a wearable EEG measurement device is raised to the next level through material technology and engineering efforts and grafted into a new practical field of artificial intelligence.” Then Prof. Kim emphasized that it is necessary to integrate specific areas that have been separately studied in the research field collectively referred to as the brain-machine interface into one topic and bring them to a practical area.

In addition, “Ultimately, we will research and apply a brain-artificial intelligence closed-loop control system for an actual autonomous vehicle with full vibration and many variables, confirming its potential in practical areas, and predicting that it may lead to actual commercialization.” Main author Joohwan explained the expected effects of the study and plans for follow-up studies.
